Hello!
This is my first blog as an MS student in Pharmacology at Tulane University!
Having been here for the past couple of years as a neuroscience major, New Orleans has become a second home to me. I’m so excited that with this program, I’ll have the chance to give back to the crescent city, in any way that I can, big or small. As an undergrad I had the opportunity to volunteer in different schools, in after school music programs as well as tutoring sessions during school hours.
This time around, I’ll get to volunteer at KIPP Leadership Primary on St. Claude. I start volunteering next week on Tuesday, and if you want to hear about it, I’ll be back with another post next month! Apart from volunteering at KIPP, I’ll be spending some time at the Children’s Hospital as well.
Apart from being engaged in the wider New Orleans community, I know this program is going to be a wonderful experience because of how clinically oriented the classes are. It’s been a month and we’ve covered two blocks: the first was an introduction to pharmacology and inflammation, while the second block has mainly been about microbes and drugs used against them, along with an overview of microscopy, cell cultures, gene therapy and use of animals in research. We have the exam tomorrow and then we move on to the ANS (or autonomic nervous system) block.
Here’s to pharmacology, delicious food and good friends!
Happy reading!
